Finishing Strong

Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing. – Psalms 34:10 (NLT)

How has your 2016 been so far?

I ask that almost kind of sarcastically because many have been perplexed at how tough this year has been, including myself. It’s been a series of tests, ups and downs and transitions that have knocked against the “tree” I’m striving so hard to keep rooted. (Psalm 1:3)

The struggle has been real since the clock struck midnight on December 29th, honey I’m not playing with you…lol As I mentioned in my previous post, my apartment was broken into mid-January. When I stated that 2016 was going to start with a bang I didn’t mean literally. (Le struggle.) My husband transitioned into his career mid 2016 and although we saw God’s favor reign it wasn’t the smoothest transition due to our lack of faith.

I’ve struggled this year internally with confusion and a double-minded spirit that caused me to retreat into a spiritual cocoon. It was like I was in a spiritual black hole or daze that I wasn’t even aware I was in. I look back now and I literally feel like I was running on empty. Unfortunately, majority of this year was spent existing and not living. I learned a lot in regards to knowing when to trust God’s plan and timing. My faith has been tested. My strength and endurance have been tested. My patience has been tested. I’ve fought against feelings and thoughts of failure, discouragement and self-condemnation. I experienced challenges in my health. Our finances have been attacked..yet again! (The struggle is real y’all lol) But despite it all God is still yet faithful. Despite it all, I’m still here fighting and running my race… because despite it all I will cross the finish line!

My health may fail and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; He is mine forever. – Psalm 73:26 (NLT)

This has been the story of my life this year. It’s something about being able to “grow” through various tests and trials and still cling to the Lord. (Like I have a choice.) I’ve mentioned to a few people I know that I could literally write a book on closed doors (that may happen one day lol) and it’s so real. After God closes so many doors or withholds certain things from you whether it’s because it’s not His will or it isn’t His timing, it’s hard to not become discouraged. After a while you may even lose your desire to dream or believe for God’s best. Refuse to let that happen. I know that God has a great purpose and plan for my life. I know that I’m enduring a season of “grind” so I refuse to be moved by what I currently see. In the end I know it’s all working for my good. Just because I may endure a few scratches and scrapes during the climb doesn’t mean I’ll give up, I wouldn’t reach the top if I did. So I encourage you to do the same! #keepclimbing

We’re now reaching the end of the year and even though this year may have been difficult for some, (hooray if you’ve had a great year) don’t allow that to cause you to give up too soon. Starting late September the theme for the rest of this year for me has been to finish strong. When you’re in the last round of a game or fight, you’re usually more vulnerable to your opponents attacks. However, no matter how tired or bruised up you are, you still have to keep fighting if you plan on taking home the victory. It’s the same in the spiritual realm. You may have been battling against something for a long time and are on the verge of giving up but I encourage you to keep fighting. No matter what you’ve endured (or are enduring) this year, you still have time to get up and win the fight.

We have less than 2 months left in this year and I encourage you to overcome the attacks that have been sent against you. God hasn’t abandoned you. Don’t believe the lies or the taunting of the enemy. Since the enemy knows that he’s already defeated, he thinks that by sending attacks against you that he will cause you to forfeit. That shall not be so. No matter what the year (or your life) has looked like so far, God has a purpose for everything you’ve gone through. And the purpose is for you to come out glittering as gold. (Isaiah 48:10) You’re being refined and prepared for the season you’re about to step into. So don’t give up during the race or forfeit during the fight. You must keep fighting so you can finish strong.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. – 2 Timothy 4:7 (NLT)
