Finishing Strong

Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing. – Psalms 34:10 (NLT)

How has your 2016 been so far?

I ask that almost kind of sarcastically because many have been perplexed at how tough this year has been, including myself. It’s been a series of tests, ups and downs and transitions that have knocked against the “tree” I’m striving so hard to keep rooted. (Psalm 1:3)

The struggle has been real since the clock struck midnight on December 29th, honey I’m not playing with you…lol As I mentioned in my previous post, my apartment was broken into mid-January. When I stated that 2016 was going to start with a bang I didn’t mean literally. (Le struggle.) My husband transitioned into his career mid 2016 and although we saw God’s favor reign it wasn’t the smoothest transition due to our lack of faith.

That Detour Saved My Life

When Pharaoh finally let the people go, God did not lead them along the main road that runs through Philistine territory, even though that was the shortest route to the Promised Land. God said, “If the people are faced with a battle, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” So God led them in a roundabout way through the wilderness toward the Red Sea. Thus the Israelites left Egypt like an army ready for battle. – Exodus 13:17-18 (NLT)

Don’t you just love detours? You make plans to reach a destination at a certain time only to find out that you have to take an alternate route delaying your arrival? I commute to work everyday in Houston (oy vey), so I’ve had my fair share of detours and delayed arrivals. However, I’ve come to realize that detours are usually protecting me from something that could have been dangerous or detrimental to my safety and overall well-being.

The Power in Patience

And please remember me and do me a favor when things go well for you. Mention me to Pharaoh, so he might let me out of this place. For I was kidnapped from my homeland, the land of the Hebrews, and now I’m here in prison, but I did nothing to deserve it. – Genesis 40:14-15 (NLT)

I’ve made quite a few posts on patience and waiting on God, not just on here but my social media pages as well. If you follow me on those pages then I’m sure you’ve come across quite a few of those posts. Can I just be real? The main reason why I write so many of these posts is because this is one of my major struggles! (I’m encouraging myself while uplifting others at the same time. What a great 2 for 1?) When it comes to planning and waiting I just can’t seem to grasp the concept. Not to say that I haven’t done well (I’ve grown so much) but I do find myself at this same road block every now and then.

What’s On Your Mantel?

All right then, Joshua said, destroy the idols among you, and turn your hearts to the LORD, the God of Israel. – Joshua 24:23 (NLT)

Most times, people place treasured items or special trophies onto their mantle,  (a shelf or outside covering of a fireplace) symbolizing an accomplishment, value or a source of pride. Now I’m usually not much of a fireplace person and most times I’d rather opt out of having a fireplace in a home or apartment. But depending on the layout, if I had the choice of having the fireplace with the symmetrical built-ins, then hey you’ve got yourself a deal! I mean the fireplace, is the heart of the home, so why not go for the whole nine, right? But just like the mantel is the heart of most homes and showcase our most prized possessions in the natural realm, so are our hearts and minds in the spiritual realm. So I dare to ask you, what’s on your mantel?

The Gift of Now

Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring. – Proverbs 27:1 (NLT)

I can’t allow myself to miss out. For the past few years I have struggled greatly with living in the present. Not so much because I’m stuck in the past but because I long, plan, daydream and become anxious for the future. I know that I cannot live a truly fulfilling life this way but it seems so difficult to not get caught up in my goals and aspirations. But that’s the thing, I’m getting caught up in my goals, my dreams, my plans and my will. What about God’s plan?

You Won’t Be Disappointed

Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5 (NLT)

Today is a day that many of us will never forget. For those that have lost loved ones or may be going through a dry season, be encouraged on today and know that God is with you and His will, will always prevail. Below is the Psalm 23 chapter that I broke down to encourage and saturate my spirit and meditate on what this beloved scripture really means. There is no better day than today to share it with you all. Be blessed.

Thank Him in the Midst

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. – 1 Thessalonians 5:18

I’ve always struggled with staying motivated and trusting God through all circumstances. But as of recently I’ve noticed that I’m really getting to a place of focusing on doing ME. I’m no longer distracted by what’s going on around me but am focused on continuing to grow in God and building my empire. It’s a wonderful feeling to finally be able to get to this place and I know that God will really be able to mature me and use me all the more because my priority is truly Him. So what has taken control of your heart and mind? What are you focused on? Are you focused on the cares of this world and the opinions of others or are you tuned in to the one that really matters the most? If your focus isn’t where it’s supposed to be you may want to re-prioritize and get your focus back in order. There’s nothing better than being in a place of gratitude because you’ve let go of all the cares that were holding you down. So release what has you bound and thank God in advance for where He’s taking you. You  may be in the midst of difficult times but God is always near and He hasn’t forgotten about you. Just make sure you haven’t forgotten about Him. As always….

Peace and love.

***P.S. Happy September all! We’re 9 months into this year and although you may not see what God has promised you, this year still isn’t over yet. I’m excited to see what God is going to do and cannot wait to share it with you all! Be on the look-out because it is coming soon, God is already turning things around!! :)***

We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. – Hebrews 12:2 (NLT)

Desperate for Divine Intervention

Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction. And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said “Who touched my clothes?” But His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, “Who touched Me?” And he looked around to see her who had done this thing. But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.” – Mark 5:25-34 (NKJV)

It’s amazing how God works. He knows that many of us walk around talking about “I got faith” knowing good and well that many would fall into the smaller than a mustard seed category. Now although Jesus stated that you can move mountains even with faith the size of a mustard seed (Luke 17:6) there comes a point in our lives where we have to grow from having little faith to great faith. As our walk in Christ continues to strengthen so should our faith in Him. Having little faith can only get you so far until you get hit with a big test, and by that time will that little faith get you through that BIG test or nah?

I Gave it to God, Now What?

So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. – Galatians 6:9 (NLT)

We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. – Colossians 1:11-12 (NLT)

Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. – Romans 12:12 (NLT)

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. – James 1:2-3 (NLT)

God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. – James 1:12 (NLT)

As for the rest of you, dear brothers and sisters, never get tired of doing good. – 2 Thessalonians 3:13 (NLT)

There’s nothing like casting your cares on God just to be like “ok what do I do next?” Trust me I’ve been there and it can really be a struggle. But according to God’s word, we keep pressing, praying, living according to the Word and believing that in just the right time God is going to move on our behalf! I wrote this short post to encourage you and to give you an extra push during your week. So don’t give up, meditate on the above scriptures because you’re too close to quit!

***P.S. We’re still waiting on God to move on our behalf on something that has been a year long process. I will make a blog post soon enough on how trusting and waiting on God can prove to be one of the best decisions you can ever make. So don’t worry I haven’t forgotten. I’m just waiting on God here!!! ;)***

Peace and love!
